Taking a leaf out of Tokyo's flood control measures, the BMC is considering setting up massive underground water tanks in the eastern suburbs, like Bhandup and Mulund, to store excess rainwater from Tulsi and Vihar lakes that would otherwise flow into Mithi river. The proposal was submitted during a civic meeting on Monday.
