23% hike in state govt staff pay from next year

The cash-strapped state government has decided to implement the seventh pay commission for its employees from January despite the severe strain it will put on its finances. "To reduce the impact on the state coffers, we are trying to increase our revenue receipts," said finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.
