Maha drought: Sugar output may drop 40% this yr

The fierce drought in in the state has crushed sugar output, with production set to plunge by a steep 40% this year.Sugar output is expected to fall from an all-time high of 107.2 lakh tonnes in 2018-19 to just 64.4 lakh tonnes in 2019-20, said officials.
