Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disorder, where a person's own immunity turns against the body, thereby killing insulin producing cells in one's pancreas. This can leave children heavily dependent on insulin injections. Sadly, the cause of the disease remains unknown. The biggest issue clearly is lack of awareness.
